I am Mairi Thomson - Midwife and Breastfeeding Counsellor

Since qualifying as a Midwife in 2012 I have seen the ups and downs of many nursing journeys. After having my own child I experienced firsthand how incredibly special breastfeeding is and how essential it is to have support through the challenging moments.

My Services

I understand that every nursing journey is unique. I will work together with you and your family to help you find solutions that feel right for you.

I can provide a breastfeeding support session either in person or online depending on your location and preferences.

I can offer support with:

Establishing breastfeeding/chestfeeding
Low or high milk supply
Painful feeds
Going back to work
Stopping breastfeeding/chestfeeding

Home Visit

I am able to offer a breastfeeding support session in your own home (location dependant) lasting up to 2 hours. A 30 minute follow up phone call is included. For areas out with Midlothian travel and parking costs are not included.

Virtual Session

Where possible I recommend a home visit however if you live too far away or have other reasons to avoid a face to face visit then I can offer a virtual session. A 30 minute follow up phone call is included.

Travel Costs

Within Midlothian there is no charge for travel costs. Out with Midlothian I charge 45p per mile, the price will be confirmed on an individual basis. Any parking charges will also need to be covered.

How do I book a session with you?

What locations do you cover?

I live in Midlothian and I can travel approx. 1.5 hours of Penicuik. Outside this area I can offer a virtual session via video call. Please just ask if you are not sure.

What travel costs do you charge?

Travel costs are 45p per mile (for areas out with Midlothian) and any parking charges

Who are you registered with?

I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Federation of Antenatal Educators (FEDANT).

Are you insured?

Yes, I am fully insured to be a breastfeeding counsellor

Are you a Lactation Consultant?

No I am not, I am qualified to give breastfeeding support as I am a Midwife. Lactation Consultants have an addition qualification.

Do you provide other Midwifery services?

I work as a Midwife for the NHS. I do not provide any private midwifery services other than breastfeeding support.
